Alden Lane comes alive in October with colorful and artistic scarecrows posing around the nursery. You can enter as a group or individually – families are encouraged to have fun building together. If you do not want to build, just come to watch and enjoy the fun.

Off to See the Wizard!
Follow the yellow brick road to Alden Lane to bring the beloved characters from Wizard of Oz to life. These scarecrows are sure to make the journey to see the Wizard. Or perhaps your scarecrow will be inspired by Wicked and have a more dramatic and magical style.
Epic Superheroes
Bring the action-packed flair of your favorite superhero to life. These scarecrows will be a celebration of courage & imagination – proof that even a humble field guardian can save the day!
Traditional
This is the scarecrow from down on the farm. You can use burlap, denim overalls, buttons, flannel shirts and anything recycled will help bring this diligent worker to life.
Important Details:
- We provide the wooden frame and the straw to fill your scarecrow.
- You provide the imagination and clothing/accessories/props to decorate your scarecrow.
- Plan to build your scarecrows to withstand strong winds and rain.
- Scarecrows must be left on display at Alden Lane Nursery through Friday, October 31st. Do not use real pumpkins or anything that will decay within a few weeks.
- Scarecrow clothing and accessories must be picked up between Saturday, November 1st and Monday, November 3rd. After Monday, November 3rd, clothing & props will be donated to charity.
This contest is judged by the public. Voting takes place in person at Alden Lane from Monday, October 13th until Thursday, October 30th. We will post the winners on our website on November 1st. Winners receive recognition on our social media and lots of bragging rights!
