Orchids 101

Our very own expert at Alden Lane (formerly of the Orchid Ranch in Livermore) will guide you through the language of orchids with an easy style of communication that will make orchid growing simplified. A wide variety of orchids and their needs will be discussed, as well as an emphasis on Pest Management in your home or greenhouse. Sue has come from a family orchid business background, and has spoken about orchids (especially Cattleyas) throughout the U.S. and Canada for 20 years.

Orchids to Grow Outside
by Dennis Olivas
Dennis has spoken nationwide about his passion for orchids, and is one of the most knowledgeable orchidists on the planet. He is also an accredited American Orchid Society judge. In this seminar he discusses orchids you can grow outside, with an emphasis on Cymbidiums. You will learn all the basics you need to know about these versatile and hardy orchids, and then some. You will come away from this seminar with a whole new level of confidence!

Orchid Bootcamp!

Easy to follow instructions will expand your orchid knowledge on orchids to grow inside and outside your home. Kathy comes from an extensive orchid background and speaks to bay area orchid growers of all skill levels. She is an accredited American Orchid Society judge.

Orchids made Easy

Known as the "Orchid Guy" on KRON TV, he is a regular on "Henry's Garden" and speaks to the novice is an easy to understand format that we can all relate to.
He will share his expertise about orchid growing in general- the do's and don'ts, the why's and why nots. A common sense approach to raising these incredible plants- and getting them to bloom for us! Be sure to catch this informative talk!

So you are thinking about a greenhouse…..? A panel of 3 hobby orchid growers made experts in the field by the fact that they have built backyard greenhouses and can share the invaluable knowledge of the reasons, the do's, and the "are you kidding?" foibles of deciding what to build and how to make it happen. If you are entertaining the idea of claiming space back from your inside "jungle" and building a backyard greenhouse from a kit, or from scratch, this seminar is for you!
Seminars are approximately 45-60 min. and are free

A docent garden tour conducted by Alden Lane's owner, Jacquie Williams Courtwright (host of "The Valley Gardener" KRON TV Show,) to include a little Livermore History and the highlights, history and heritage of Alden Lane Nursery.

Orchids Made Easy, an informal potting and question/answer session to address your personal orchid concerns ( located in the greenhouse). Very informative- and ongoing throughout the show hours!
Professional Speakers Forum Six very qualified experts to address a wide variety of orchid related topics for both beginners and seasoned hobbyists. We will have a speaker at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm both Sat and Sun. The Speakers list and their topics will be posted on our website in December
